<description>This whole fiasco so much resembles what happened in the late 1920s.
The government let big business do their own thing. The economy imploded.
The little guy suffered.

At least this time around *some* of the fat cats got hit for this ridiculous situation.
When will the government learn "an ounce of prevention"</description>

<description>Dr HB, thanks for the toxic mortgage graph., Many people aren't aware of how subprime was just the beginning of this mess. With Alt-As, I/O and Arms resetting on the near horizon, "we aint seen nuttin yet". Affluent areas of LA are just now starting to feel the pinch. Santa Monica has 109 properties in some phase of foreclosure right now. As the toxic loans work their way through, we will see higher end properties feel the pain.

No place is immune...

I tend not to be terribly panickoid...but with the Posse Comitatus Act suspended (thanks to the 2006 Warner Act), and the 1st Combat Brigade Team now doing domestic duty under the Northern Command (Army), with part of its mission being suppressing democratic dissent on the whim of the President, using a panoply of nonlethal torture devices honed on Iraqi citizens...

...the paisan's comment sounds less extreme than it did two hours ago.

I've said for 8 years that we won't see an election in 2008...some of that was progressive bluster...now...I dunno. If a vice presidential candidate can walk into a debate and say up front she's not going to answer any of the questions, then not do that, and suffer no consequences (and get points for "holding her own")...then Gore Vidal was right when he pointed out 20 or more years ago that the corporate mass media have managed what despots and dictators only have dreamed: the complete takeover of everything, everywhere, for all time.
~
This is what Goldman Sachs, in the form of Hank Paulson (on his 70+ trade trips to China) always had in mind:
~
"A debate is stirring among Chinese scholars and officials about how to manage the West’s decline; how, they are asking, can they best shape the behaviour of Western powers to advance Chinese interests and values?"

Tom Paine protect us. And, excuse me, fuck the PRC.

<description>Well, there is not turning back now.

Democracy and Liberty are standing in the way of efficient Fascist monetary and military policies.
